Senegalese batik
Batik workshop in Saint-Louis, Senegal in which I did a summer pareo. Batik is a technique in which a piece of fabric is hand-dyed by using wax as a repellent, to cover the parts of the design one doesn’t want to dye. Once the wax has been left to dry out, the piece of fabric gets dyed except for the painted design in wax. Finally, in order to detach the wax from the fabric, it needs to be boiled.
All pictures were taken in Senegal by Katherina Boyadjieva and me.
